CCI-LEX - Frequently Asked Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT KIND OF SCHOOL IS CCI-LEX?
An awesome one!  We are an adult English as a Second Language (ESL) school  that is a not-for-profit, charitable organization, located in Downtown Edmonton. We offer classes to both permanent and temporary residents of Canada.  We have a relaxed, friendly environment that makes everyone feel welcome.  Our students come from 90 different countries, are from 17 years of age to 80, and have beginner to advanced levels of english.

AM I ALLOWED TO STUDY AT CCI-LEX IF I AM IN CANADA ON A VISITOR'S VISA?
Immigration Canada allows visitors to study for up to six months.

HOW MANY HOURS A WEEK IS CONSIDERED FULL-TIME?
We consider 20 hours per week as Full-time Intensive study. A typical full-time student studies General ESL Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00p.m., and two afternoons a week 1:00p.m. to 3:30p.m. for Communication Skills.  Full-time study is only offered in the CCI Program.

WHERE DO YOUR STUDENTS COME FROM?
Last year, CCI-LEX taught students from over 90 different countries.

WHEN CAN I START CLASSES?
CCI-LEX has continuous enrollment.  New students can join every Monday, provided there is space available!  If the class you need is full, you will need to wait to start your class.  We can not guarantee or save a seat for any student in advance.

HOW LONG ARE YOUR COURSES?  Length of courses vary.  Minimum length of study is 4 weeks (but that is not a complete class or term).  Find more information in our schedules and price lists in the section on ESL Classes.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ATTEND CCI-LEX?
Our prices are very reasonable with no hidden charges. Download our schedule and price list for visa holders or our schedule and price list for immigrants to Canada for more information.

HOW CAN I PAY FOR THE CLASSES?
We accept credit and debit cards, cheques, and cash.
With PayMyTuition, you can pay your tuition payments online from any bank, in any country in any currency. Students paying from outside Canada can also contact us for information on Electronic Transfers or Western Union.

CAN I RECEIVE FINANCIAL HELP TO ATTEND CCI-LEX?
CCI-LEX offers great classes at very affordable rates.  The CCI Program does not provide financial assistance and there are no funded seats. The Ministry of Labour, Alberta Goverment, funds the LEX program, which allows us to offer learning to citizens and permanent residents at a very low cost.

DO I HAVE TO BUY TEXTBOOKS?
Both programs use an excellent textbook series. In the LEX Program, students receive their textbook as a part of their registration and materials fees.  For the majority of classes in the CCI Program, students pay a one-time registration and materials fee per class level, which covers the cost of their textbook & workbook and any supplemental information.

HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE IN EACH CLASS?
LEX classes have a maximum enrollment of 18 and CCI classes have a maximum enrollment of 12. Average class size in both programs is usually smaller than the maximum enrollment.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO THE INSTRUCTORS HAVE?
CCI classes are taught by highly qualified ESL professionals, that all have university degrees, TESL training, and TESL experience. LEX classes are taught by volunteers, with ongoing training and support from an ESL professional.
