The CCI-LEX Board of Directors is looking to recruit new board members.  This is a voluntary position

Cultural Connections Institute - The Learning Exchange (CCI-LEX) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization offering English as a Second Language classes to refugees, permanent and temporary residents, and citizens in Canada. Our mission is to promote personal growth for adults through English language instruction and the exchange of cultural knowledge.

The Board of Directors is responsible for oversight, governance and for setting the long-term strategic direction of CCI-LEX.  Successful candidates will be required to attend board meetings, usually on a monthly basis, and are expected to join one of the four committees: Human Resources, Governance, Finance, or Fund Development and Community Engagement.

Board Members assist the organization with policy creation and overall strategic planning and direction to ensure continued quality language programming is delivered. They are responsible to review and act upon committee recommendations brought to the Board, as well as utilize their personal and professional skills, relationships, and knowledge for the advancement of CCI-LEX and its programs for newcomers.

Desired Skills:  Skills in any of the following areas would be considered assets but are not required to apply: board governance and experience in an executive role on a board; business development; marketing and communications; finance; fund development.

Qualifications:  Fluency in verbal and written English skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work well in a small group. Previous experience working with non-profit boards is considered an asset.

Other Requirements:  Successful applicants will be required to undergo a police record check, and must provide phone numbers for two professional references.

Time commitment: 5-10 hours per month; 2-year term (up to a maximum of 3 terms or 6 years)

Time& Day of Volunteer Engagement: Weekday Evenings, Board Meetings are usually held the 4th Monday of each month.
